Frequently Asked Questions

• Who should contribute to the Annual Fund?
  Anyone can contribute to the Annual Fund! We ask asking every member of our Carlthorp community to participate at some level to make this a community building event.

• How can I contribute?
  Contributions may be made to the Annual Fund in the form of cash, check, or appreciated stock. Please click here for a printable contribution form. Contributions may be mailed or dropped off at the reception desk in the front office. If you are not using the envelope provided with the letter you received, please address any contributions to:

Please do not mail cash. For information on contributing appreciated stock, including transfer instructions, please contact Ken Parr.

• How much should I give?
  How much each individual or family contributes is a very personal decision. We are asking for 100% participation from our families, faculty, and staff with an ultimate goal of raising $225,000. We ask that everyone contribute at an appropriate and comfortable level while giving generously to help us reach our goal.

• When are payments and pledges due?
  In the letters addressed to our Carlthorp community we requested a pledge by February 12, 2010. Payments may be made as late as June 30, 2010.

• Are contributions tax deductible?
  Yes, contributions to Annual Fund are tax deductible to the full extent of the law under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code. Contributors will receive a donation recognition letter for tax purposes.

• I would like to contribute to the Annual Fund, but delay my payment until later in the year. Can I make a pledge, and when can pledges be scheduled until?
  Yes, the downloadable form has a check box for a direct gift or a pledged gift. Pledges for the 2009 – 2010 Annual Fund may be made at any time with a scheduled payment date up to June 30, 2010.

• I am still making payments on my A New Level of Excellence pledge, should I still contribute to Annual Fund?
  We understand that many families are still making payments on their pledges to our A New Level of Excellence capital campaign. As we stated at the introduction of that campaign, we do not wish to overburden our families by asking them to be full contributors to both campaigns simultaneously. For those still actively contributing to A New Level of Excellence, we ask that you help us reach our goal of 100% participation by contributing at a level that is comfortable for your family.
  We request that you continue with your A New Level of Excellence pledge as scheduled and participate in Annual Fund to a degree you feel is appropriate.

• Will my name or contribution amount be announced or published?
  Carlthorp School has a policy of listing donors in any and all publications by name only. All contribution amounts are held confidentially. A list containing the names of all contributors to the campaign will be published with a thank you message at the end of the campaign.

• What are these funds used for?
  While Carlthorp School is proud to be one of the few schools that operates on a balanced budget, there are purchases that fall outside our normal scope of operation and curriculum. Annual Fund is a program designed to support the school’s regular operation by ensuring it remains on the leading edge of education and technology.

• I have further questions regarding the Annual Fund. Who should I contact?
  Every Carlthorp family, faculty, and staff member was mailed a personalized letter with information about annual fund including the names of your Class Captains. If you have any specific information about contributing to the Annual Fund please contact your Class Captain. If you did not receive a letter, are unsure who your class captain is, or would like further information please contact:
