Diversity Policy
A Commitment to Diversity
Carlthorp School remains actively committed to a diverse religious, ethnic, cultural, and economic student body and faculty. Approximately 40% of our students come from African American, Latino, Native American, Persian, Asian or Pacific Islander families.

A Global Community
Carlthorp School families are internationally diverse as well; our families speak over 20 languages in the home. In a recent questionnaire, nearly 30% of our parents responded that they were raised in countries outside the United States. Recent Carlthorp School students have relocated with their families to a variety of countries; many have returned to us, bringing with them a wide variety of experiences in schools from six continents.

A Celebration of Cultures
Carlthorp School's curriculum and classroom life celebrate our diverse community. Multi-cultural assemblies are scheduled each trimester. Every grade level examines a variety of ethnic and cultural identities, as in the multi-unit "Heritage Celebration" in the second grade. Field trips broaden understandings of many different life experiences, such has the third grade's trips to the "Festival of Cultures" and the Native American History Museum. All-school events like Cinco de Mayo, Chinese New Year, and International Day, allow students to investigate many definitions of cultural identity.

Respect for Many Religions
Carlthorp School students worship and celebrate according to a broad variety of religions; our students identify themselves as Buddhist, Catholic, Jewish, Protestant, Armenian, Ba'hai, Mormon, Christian Scientest, Episcopalian, Greek Orthodox, Anglican, Christian, Unitarian, and Muslim. Carlthorp School observes all major holidays, and also observes the High Holidays.

Economic Diversity
Approximately 10% of the Carlthorp School Community is subsidized by school-provided financial aid.
