Kindergarten is a special year at Carlthorp School. From the "How I Lost My Tooth" Journal to the Popcorn Parade, the classroom experience encourages our kindergartener to develop both academically and socially. With the help of their beloved "6th Grade Buddies,” Carlthorp School's newest students are welcomed warmly into our community.
"The Ocean" unit ties in art, science, math, language arts, geography, music, and literature. Students read books and poetry about fish, travel to the UCLA Marine Center, and complete ocean-themed math problems in their math journals. The end-of-the-year science program includes the study of plants and the Amazon Rainforest. Students experiment by growing plants in a variety of conditions, from seed to full grown plant.
Special events like the Ice Cream Social, the Teddy Bear Picnic, and Zero the Hero's legendary visit to the classroom on the 100th day of school will become some of the first cherished memories in your elementary school scrapbook.
Our busy kindergarteners will be working on everything from learning their address and tying their shoes, to learning letter sounds, reading and basic number skills. Kindergarteners are always excited to write in their journals and share "News" each day during circle time, which is the first step in Carlthorp School's well-established public speaking program.
