Carlthorp School recognizes the importance of embracing information technology literacy as an integral component of its curriculum.
Carlthorp School is committed to excellence across the curriculum.  In the 21st Century, bridging the digital gap is a necessary requisite to ongoing educational success. The responsible use of technology is compatible with all that we believe.

Outstanding instructional delivery is directly correlated to the educator delivering it. However, the instructional delivery also involves the tools used to deliver the instruction, in essence, the technology that is used to teach.

  • Innovation Hub

The Innovation Hub is a dedicated space where students can connect knowledge across disciplines in creative ways. It is a flexible working space for all grade levels, subjects, and specialty classes. The Hub provides technological resources to enhance lessons, as well as opportunities for hands- on, group and individual learning.

The Innovation Hub houses exciting things like maker materials and tools, building kits like Little Bits and K’Nex, 3D printers, a green screen, robotics kits, and tinker stations where students can build basic computers and dissect them as well. The layout is also dynamic so that almost all of the cabinetry and desks are mobile and nesting. This means the room can be easily arranged and rearranged for a variety of uses.
  • Technology

We thoughtfully integrate new technologies into the classroom—whether it be the SMARTBoard, the iPad, 3-D printers, or the next evolution—to enable us as educators to reflect upon how we teach. We consider issues that include the following: What is the best way to present this material? What method is the most effective and engaging to maximize student learning? How are we preparing our students to live and function in the 21st century?

Instructional delivery—how we teach—will change over the next decade, thanks to technology. Carlthorp School is committed to providing the resources and creating a work environment that empowers our outstanding educators to be innovative when it comes to their instructional delivery, especially as it relates to technology in the classroom. The school has a nearly eight decade tradition that has helped to craft and develop a solid academic curriculum. Thanks to that foundation, the school has the ability to be “cutting edge” and “innovative” in how best to teach its students.

  • Social Media Education

In partnership with the Social Institute, we work with our students to foster responsible social media habits.  Our 5th and 6th Grade students are taught positive ways to handle social media and technology.  By reinforcing character strengths like empathy, integrity, and teamwork, and by teaching students to be their best selves on all platforms, students are provided with the tools to "win the game of social media."
