Open to Carlthorp Graduates 
Currently in Grades 10-12

Carlthorp School is excited to announce the 2018 / 2019 Carlthorp School Fellowship. The Fellowship is a unique opportunity for CS alumni currently in grades 10 -12 to demonstrate leadership, serve as role models to Carlthorp School 6th Graders, and be young alumni ambassadors in the community. 

Carlthorp Alumni Fellows will:
  • Serve as Teaching Assistants for the Carlthorp/KidUnity 6th Grade Service Learning Program (January-March)  
  • Help prepare 6th Grade policy teams for a service/civics trip to Washington, D.C.
  • Work with a team of students focused on a policy issue to prepare them as investigative journalists for the trip to DC.
  • Travel to Washington, D.C., with the Carlthorp 6th Grade class, teachers, & KidUnity directors on an all-expense paid trip (March 9 - 13, 2019) to assist students as they meet with lawmakers, policy experts, NGOs, & journalists
  • Serve as liaisons for young Carlthorp alumni

    Fellows will be selected based on the following criteria:
    • Embodiment of the Carlthorp Code of Conduct
    • Demonstrated leadership & service at school & in the community
    • Pursuit of excellence in academics & extracurricular programs
  • Time Committment/Key Dates

    • Application due: October 20, 2018
    • Workshop dates (8 total):
      • January 10, 17, 24, 31
      • February 7, 14, 28
      • March 7
    • Washington, D.C., trip: March 9 - 13, 2019
    • Attend a Fellows Welcome Brunch (date in December TBD)
    • Attend a Fellows Recap Brunch (date in spring TBD)

    * Fellows should attend as many after-school workshops as possible. Workshops will take place on campus with some fieldwork at local service agencies.

  • 2018 Fellows

    Carlthorp School thanks its 2018 Fellows!  This past year, five Fellows worked with the 6th grade policy teams to prepare them for their trip to to Washington, D.C. where they met with lawmakers, policy experts, NGOs, and journalists.  2018 Carlthorp School Fellows were:

  • Special Experiences

    In addition to a three day packed schedule of meetings with lawmakers, NGOs and policy experts, and a day full of museums and monuments, the 2018 Fellows enjoyed a private meeting with President Obama’s Director of Communications, Jen Psaki.  We hope to arrange similar special opportunities for this year's Fellows.

    Fellows will serve as alumni ambassadors and may be asked to represent the school in special on-campus or community events.
