Halloween Teaches Students the Fun of Giving

Halloween celebrations at Carlthorp School are a time-honored tradition that include the morning Costume Parade and afternoon Halloween Carnival.
The students look forward to celebrating the joy of the day with their friends and teachers, showing off their costumes, and even attempting to dunk Mr. Kusserow in the dunk tank at the Carnival.

While Halloween and the upcoming holiday season are filled with excitement surrounding trick-or-treating, gift giving and gift receiving, Carlthorp School emphasizes “service to others” rather than simply receiving. For the third year in a row, the Halloween Carnival had a philanthropic twist and the entire student body participated in games to earn tokens in support of three charities chosen by Student Council. The charities were NKLA: No-Kill Los Angeles, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Baby2Baby. These three charities together received donations based on the number of tokens students contributed, funds previously used to buy toys and prizes for Carlthorp students. In addition, students were encouraged to donate their extra Halloween candy to Operation Gratitude by contributing to the donation bin at school on Monday, November 4, and Tuesday, November 5. Small but purposeful acts of service teach our students that giving back is not only important and rewarding but also fun.
