Gratitude for Firefighters and First Responders

Many families in the Carlthorp School community were impacted by the recent Getty Fires. During these October fires when families were evacuated and our community came together to support  each other, one theme resonated with students, teachers, and parents alike... appreciation for the sacrifice and dedication of the first responders and firefighters.
As a community, we expressed our gratitude to the LAFD firefighters of Station 69 (Pacific Palisades, CA) with thank-you letters and a special visit from our 5th grade students. So touched by the visit, these firefighters recently visited the Carlthorp School campus to be recognized by our community at morning assembly and to demonstrate to our 5th grade students the level of physical rigor required to be a firefighter, further solidifying the children’s admiration for these incredible men and women.

In addition, Samanth Ko, a Carlthorp School alumna, designed "SoCal Heroes" apparel to support the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation. Last year she was able to raise and donate over $3,000 to the LAFD Foundation, which helped to purchase hydration backpacks for the firefighters. The firefighters greatly benefit from these backpacks, which keep them hydrated while working extremely long hours.

This year, Samantha created a new design for hoodies, aprons, and baseball caps. Again, 100% of the proceeds support the LAFD in its acquisition of particulate barrier hoods, carcinogen-containment gear bags and fire shelters.

We are so grateful for the hardworking men and women who have chosen to dedicate their lives to keeping us safe!
