Art Grows Here

The yearly art show is an opportunity for our Carlthorp School community to honor and appreciate our students’ artistic expression. This year’s exhibit, Art Grows Here, opened on Monday, May 6, in the Multipurpose Room (MPR) with a morning reception and remained up until the end of the day on Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day, Thursday, May 9.
With the theme of growth in mind, students created art inspired by a variety of sources from nature and the world around them to the artwork of famous artists and cultures to that which they found within their own hearts, minds, and imaginations.

Every student in the school chose one piece to present in the exhibit from three to four projects created in each grade on the theme of the show.  All students also had a second piece of art that was part of an all-school display made up of individual leaves forming a beautiful vine on the walls of the MPR.

Various media were used in the creation of the art pieces. They included oil, pastel, watercolor, and fabric dye as well as wire, metal, plastic, fabric, and more, resulting in a colorful and exciting presentation.

Students enjoyed visiting the exhibit with their classes during school hours and parents and families could be found wandering through the artwork before and after school. The pieces in this exhibit reflected how art grows in our minds, hearts, and imaginations.
