ArtSmart Day Inspires the Carlthorp Community

On Friday, October 19, Carlthorp School celebrated ArtSmart and spent the entire day exploring and learning about various art forms.
Parent volunteers -- several of whom shared their own professional expertise -- brought to life various artistic mediums such as textile design, Chinese brush painting, fiber art, graphic design, jewelry making, terrarium design, and cartooning, to name a few. The students also participated in workshops designed to highlight the art of Vincent Van Gogh, Louise Nevelson, Salvador Dalí, Eric Carle, and some of our very own Carlthorp parents.

The day took months of planning on the part of our co-chairs Greta Williams (Art Department), Jean Austin (Art Department), Rachel Adams (Art Department), Jack McHugh (Music Department), and Jackie Lin (Music Department).  Over 75 parents, seven grandparents, and several alumni volunteered to promote the arts! Every student also spent countless hours learning dance routines, which they so enthusiastically performed for each other and many of our parents before departing for the day. Special times like today not only build a sense of community, but also demonstrate to our children that art in all its forms is engaging, exciting, and fun!
