    Maya is the Front Office Manager and has worked at Carlthorp School for seven years.
    She is a Los Angleles native who received her Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology
    from the University of Hawaii. With her multi-ethnic background, Maya has a strong
    interest in learning and understanding other cultures, which has contributed to her
    interest in diversity and inclusion. She not only serves Carlthorp with administrative support as the front line, but also helps in admissions, and co-chairs the Diversity, Inclusion and Excellence Committee. Maya’s free time is filled with her passion for performing and competing in Polynesian Dancing. She also enjoys the outdoors and stays active by hiking, outrigger canoeing and traveling.

  • Elaine Hobert

    Elaine is from Chicago, Illinois and moved to Los Angeles to attend USC. She double-majored, earning Bachelor’s degrees in Humanities and Piano Performance, and later, her Master’s degree in Education. Elaine spent most of her formative years playing piano. At age 11 she performed Rachmaninoff’s 1st Piano Concerto with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and in 1996 she had the distinction of being the only US finalist chosen to compete in the Chopin International Piano Competition for Young Artists in Moscow. For the last fifteen years, Elaine has enjoyed working with young children as both a piano teacher and an elementary school teacher. She taught in LAUSD for many years before joining Carlthorp's 2nd grade team in 2011. Elaine looks forward to bringing her educational background into her new position in Admissions this year!

  • Sara Hankins

    Sara earned her Bachelor’s degree in Human Evolutionary Biology from Harvard College. As an undergrad, she managed the Harvard Men’s Basketball team and supervised 800 undergraduates in the University’s largest student-run business. Prior to joining Carlthorp School, Sara worked in Development at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University. Sara was born in Anchorage, Alaska and grew up on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State. She is a culinary aficionado who also enjoys exercise classes and the horror/sci-fi genre.

    Stephanie retired after 33 years of service in Southern California’s public schools, and she is now excited to bring this experience to the Carlthorp School community.  Her professional experiences include 1st – 9th grade Teacher, Assistant Principal, Instructional Coordinator, and Principal.  She was the Principal at Short Avenue School when it became California’s highest performing Reading First School as well as Principal of Melrose Math Science and Technology Magnet which was recognized as a California Distinguished School, an Apple Distinguished School, and a Magnet Schools of America School of Excellence. She is passionate in her pursuit of educational excellence in all student populations.  Proudly, Stephanie is the first in her family to earn a college degree holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Sciences from Cal State Dominguez Hills and a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology from Cal State San Bernardino. In her spare time Stephanie enjoys walking and hiking for exercise, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family.

    Lynn holds a Bachelor’s degree from Occidental College in Organizational Psychology.  She is also a graduate of UCLA’s Anderson School of Management, Executive Program. As the daughter of an American diplomat, Lynn was raised all over the world before settling in Los Angeles.  She has three sons, each of whom is a Carlthorp School graduate, and she herself is a former member of the Carlthorp School Board of Trustees. In Lynn’s limited free time she enjoys traveling, reading, taking walks on sunny days, and spending time with friends and family.

  • Maureen Pollack

    Director of Communication

    Maureen ’90 is a native of Santa Monica and a proud Carlthorp School graduate.  The daughter of a former Carlthorp School teacher, Mrs. Dowling, Maureen has been connected to the school for decades. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Boston College in the fields of English and Communication. Prior to working at Carlthorp School, she worked in Advancement at Brentwood School and as Marketing Director at Two Rodeo Drive, in Beverly Hills. Maureen has two young daughters who keep her on her toes in her spare time.
  • Patricia Zanuck

    Communications Coordinator

    Patricia was a public elementary school educator for several years. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College (Vermont) and a Master’s degree in Education from University of Southern California. Born in Oslo, Norway, she spent her childhood years moving back and forth between Norway and the United States before settling in Los Angeles after college graduation.
  • Robert Moriarity

    DIRECTOR OF TECHNOLOGY
    Robert has more than thirty years of industry experience in information technology.  Starting in the early 1980’s, he developed and managed computer-controlled satellite communication systems for the United States Army.  Before coming to Carlthorp School in 2010, Robert held the position of Director of Information Technology for Disney Interactive Media Group.  In his spare time he cooks Italian food, makes wooden furniture, sails, backpacks, and sculpts.

  • Nhung Truong

    Head of School Assistant

    Nhung Truong is entering her 3rd year at Carlthorp School.  For her, the best part of being at Carlthorp is being a part of such a dynamic family of caring and dedicated professionals.  She is a graduate of San Diego State University.

    In addition to California, she has lived in Michigan and Texas.  That upbringing is where she developed her love of the four seasons and Dallas Cowboys football.  When not at work, she enjoys cooking, game nights and spending time with friends.  She lives in Irvine with her husband, 3 year old daughter, two cats and dog.

    Administrative Assistant


    Karen is a native Califonian who grew up in Van Nuys. The 2018-19 school year marks her 29th year at Carlthorp School as an Administrative Assistant.  She is excited to be working alongside such a friendly and warm faculty and staff.  In her spare time she likes to watch movies, spend time with her family and curl up with a good book.

    Yard Supervisor & Late Care Supervisor

    Yvette earned her BA in Psychology from California State University, Los Angeles. she has worked with children in different capacities, babysitting and also teaching Sunday school at her church.  She is a California native and was born in Santa Monica and raised in Long Beach. She is an avid reader and reads almost 50 books a year. When she is not lost in a book you can find her hiking with friends and family, traveling, hanging out at the beach or just finding new places to eat in Los Angeles.

    Facilities

    Jose has worked at Carlthorp School for 5 years in the Facilities Department.  Born in El Salvador, he has two children.  In his spare time he loves to spend time outdoors playing soccer and other sports. 
  • Vilma Zavaleta

    Housekeeping

    Vilma has worked at Carlthorp School for 34 years.  Born in El Salvador, she is the mother of two children.  She loves spending time with her grandchildren, at her church and shopping.  
  • Chad Hellmuth

    Facilities Manager

    Chad graduated from California Lutheran University with a BA in Communications. He is certified as a Facility Management Professional by the International Facility Management Association.  He manages the campus grounds, building, facility staff, vendors and building projects at Carlthorp School. Before coming to Carlthorp, Chad worked in visual efx at Sony Imageworks where he ran the internship program and worked in artist management. He is a 2018 inductee into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame and has one son.
  • Julio Penado

    Facilities

    Julio has been working at Carlthorp School for 21 years in the Facilities Department.  Born in El Salvador, he has two children and one grandchild.  In his spare time he loves to run, walk and spend time outdoors.  

Security

  • Sal Cortes

    Security
    Sal is a native California resident. He attended Pierce College, where he was the Student Body President, and Cal State Northridge University in the nearby San Fernando Valley. 
    He has nearly 25 years experience as a law enforcement professional with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department including work in private security,  executive protection and private investigation. 
     
    He was an accomplished high school and collegiate wrestler competing and representing the United States in tournaments in Greece and Japan. Sal is also an avid fisherman. When he’s not at school, he’s usually out on the water or spending quality time with his family.
  • John Wallace

    Director of Security

    John is a former LA County Deputy Sheriff and has an advanced P.O.S.T. Certificate with over 33 years of combined law enforcement and executive protection experience. John attended LA Valley College and received a football scholarship to attend Prairie View A&M University of Texas and Carroll College of Montana. John has worked at Carlthorp school for 14 years, has a wife Donna, two sons and a Daughter. John has one dog and four cats. (All Rescued!!!)

  • Ken Parr

    Director of Finance

    Santa Monica native, Ken graduated from Sonoma State University in the fields of Finance and Philosophy and has been a part of the Carlthorp School team for over a decade. His responsibilities include managing the business office, the school’s finances, advancement, payroll and human resources, and the overseeing of the physical plant.
  • Christina King

    Business Office Administrative Assistant

    Christina holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Cal State Long Beach. She has been a part of the Carlthorp School team for nineteen years, spending a majority of that time as a teacher’s assistant in the science lab. As well as working in the business office, she is responsible for the after school clubs. Christina has two children, both of whom graduated from Carlthorp. Her daughter currently works at Carlthorp as a teacher’s assistant.

  • Lonnie Wittenberg

    Director of Parent Programs and Special Events

    Lonnie graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies. She holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Lesley University. She is also a graduate of the Director’s Guild of America-Producer Training Program, and worked for many years as an Assistant Director in Film and Film Television Production. She has four children, all of whom attended Carlthorp School. Her hobbies include snowboarding, skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, reading, traveling, and seeing movies.
  • Peggy Inadomi

    Director of Parent Programs and Special Events

    Peggy holds a Bachelor’s degree from UCLA in Psychology. Prior to working at Carlthorp School, she worked as the Assistant to the Director of Development at Harvard University Graduate School of Design and as a Marketing Director at Estee Lauder.  She is the parent of two Carlthorp graduates and resides in Santa Monica. She enjoys bicycling and walking around Manhattan.
  • Nikki Edwards

    Community Service Coordinator

    Nikki has coordinated community service for seven years, leveraging her prior experience as a parent volunteer with the program while her three sons attended Carlthorp. She also served as a school trustee for five years. She believes engaging students in meaningful, enjoyable service activities helps promote a lifelong commitment to helping others.
    A graduate of Southampton University with degrees in economics and accounting, Nikki is a Chartered Accountant and worked many years as a management consultant for Price Waterhouse in London and Los Angeles. A keen athlete, Nikki played on the British national lacrosse team for ten years, and continues to enjoy coaching, soccer, and mountain hiking with husband Tracy.
