Carlthorp Welcomes the Matsiko World Orphan Choir

On Thursday, December 13, Carlthorp School hosted the Matsiko World Orphan Choir composed of 23 children.
They came to us from as far away as Peru, Liberia, India and Nepal to share their songs of hope and joy. Our entire student body along with many parents gathered to watch the choir perform a number of songs, and the entire audience even joined in on a rendition of "Feliz Navidad"!

The 4th through 6th grade classes then met the Matsiko children in a more intimate setting for a Q&A session, where our students bonded with their guests over their favorite sports, favorite colors, favorite foods, and much more. The Matsiko children also shared what life is like in their home countries and the trials they faced before joining the choir.

The two groups later worked together to complete math assignments, art projects and engineering challenges, finding a universal language in school work and fun that transcended language barriers. Many Carlthorp students, reflecting after the experience, remarked about how the Matsiko children maintained a positive outlook despite their tumultuous home life.  We are so grateful to have had the Matsiko Choir join us for the day and to offer a perfect reminder to slow down and give thanks amidst the rush of everyday life.
