Engagement Abroad: Extending Our Village via Kenya Connect

At Carlthorp School, our commitment to community extends far beyond our campus walls, reaching from local neighborhoods to young learners across the globe.
Through a growing partnership with Kenya Connect, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering rural education in East Africa, our community is putting our values into action in meaningful, hands-on ways:

  • Building Global Connections: Our 3rd graders launched a pen pal program with Kenyan students, sharing stories and fostering cross-cultural friendships.
  • On-the-Ground Support: Cyreeta Sharp, Director of Community Engagement and Belonging, traveled to Kenya to work directly alongside educators at seven different school sites.
  • Literacy Boost: Carlthorp donated Scholastic credits to help Kenya Connect expand its library program.

We are thrilled to share that the new books purchased with our Scholastic credit have officially arrived in Kenya! Complete with custom bookplates, these high-quality, engaging titles were hand-selected by Kenya Connect’s team to directly match their students’ interests and reading levels.

Kenya Connect’s library team was overjoyed to receive the shipment. For many of the 90-plus partner schools in Kenya Connect's network, these additions represent the very first books their students will ever have access to read.

Thank you to our amazing Carlthorp families for helping us nurture a lifelong love of reading and learning — both near and far!
