Welcome Steve Milich to Admissions

I am delighted to introduce our new Director of Admissions, Stephen (Steve) Milich.
On the recommendation of the Search Advisory Committee – which took into account feedback from faculty, staff, parents, and board members – and with the enthusiastic endorsement of Lynn Wagmeister, Steve will join Carlthorp School on July 1, 2022. Steve is thrilled to join such a warm and welcoming community – and to inherit the tradition of excellence Lynn has built over her 12 years of service to Carlthorp as our Director.

Steve is a passionate and skilled Director of Admissions with more than twenty years of experience. Steve most recently served as the Director of Middle and Upper School Admission and Associate Director of Financial Aid, College Counseling, and Communications at Fort Worth Country Day, one of the preeminent independent schools in North Texas. He previously served as the Director of Admission and Financial Aid at The Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, and it was during his tenure there that he chaired the LA Consortium of Secondary School Admission Directors. Prior to joining Buckley, Steve served as the Director of Admission and Financial Aid at The Pennington School (NJ), and he began his career working in college admissions at Drew University (NJ), Occidental College (CA), and New York University (NY). Steve has a Masters in Educational Leadership from The University of Pennsylvania and an extensive knowledge of best practices in elementary school admissions. Beyond his resume, he is warm and engaging, and delighted to get to know both current and prospective members of the Carlthorp community.

Steve is not only honored to succeed Lynn as our next Director of Admissions but also excited to be coming home to Los Angeles. He loves exploring all that Los Angeles has to offer, and never misses an opportunity to visit a museum, attend a Dodgers baseball game, or screen the latest musical or drama on opening night. In his free time, he enjoys walking for hours on end along the Pacific Ocean, trying as much Peruvian food as possible, and planning his next weekend getaway to the desert or the mountains.

To round out our Admissions team, we are equally excited to announce that Elaine Hobert will serve as our next Associate Director of Admissions. Elaine spent nine years at Carlthorp in the classroom before joining the Admissions team as a part-time Admissions Associate for three years. While Elaine rejoined the teaching faculty for the 2021-22 academic year as a fourth grade teacher, she is excited to rejoin the Admissions office and work alongside Steve.

We are also grateful that Lynn will remain a member of our Carlthorp community next year, providing invaluable advice to Steve and Elaine as they take on the important task of overseeing our Admissions office. The three of them truly are a dream team.

Please join me in congratulating him and Elaine, and expressing our deep appreciation for Lynn’s immeasurable contributions to the Carlthorp community.

Warmly,
Nola-rae
